Wouldn’t It Be Cool If I…

(30 Days of Truth – Day 13 – Discuss some of the things on your bucket list)

I realized something today. I don’t have a Bucket List. Am I the only one? I hear people talk about theirs all the time but it never crossed my mind that I should have one. Maybe I should. Or maybe I already do but don’t really recognize it as a bucket list but more of a Wish List or better yet my Dream List. I think I’m just going to list my string of ideas that fall under the header “Wouldn’t it be cool if I…” so here goes.

Wouldn’t it be cool if I…

…obtain an MBA.
…visit Key West, Las Vegas and New Orleans with Gil.
…(we) attend both the Oscars and the Grammy Awards ceremony.
…open a cat rescue.
…watch my nephew graduate from college.
…perform some athletic feat that no one expects (hike a mountain, run a marathon).
…skydive with the US Army Golden Knights (DOH, wait…I already did that one.).
…fly like the wind in a homemade stock car like my mom and dad used to do.
…see my husband’s face when he realizes his book has been listed on the NYT Best Seller list.
…become a successful nonprofit fundraising event planner.
…do Skyjump Las Vegas.
…(we) watch the sun set/rise over the Grand Canyon.
…(we) travel cross country in an RV for a year.
…help with a dental mission trip (or any working mission trip).
…(we) take the kids on a Disney/Nickelodeon cruise before they get too old to enjoy it.
…(we) visit Gil’s family in Mexico.
…could visit Cuba.
…(we) take the same roadtrip as Cate and Max took in Lives Vol I.
…see Dwyane Wade win more rings than Jordan.
…had a full-time maid.
…(we)attend the 2014 World Cup.
…watch my husband on Oprah.
…live long enough to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

Now, I clearly need to expand on this list so give me some ideas. Comment below and give me three of your bucket list items. I’m very curious to know what other people dream about doing. Nothing is too big or too small. Ok, ready. Set. GO!

  1. I don’t have a bucket list either…honestly – the thing I have most wanted to do for years (since the early 80’s) was to play in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker – which I was fortunate enough to do in 2005…yes – I’ve got things I’d like to do – but nothing that I’m thinking “gee – my life will be incomplete if I don’t…” I’m not sure if that’s good or not…

    1. David, I felt exactly the same way when I read today’s topic. Of the things listed, there are only a small few that I feel like I must accomplish. Other than those few, they are mostly just silly dreams of mine. Thanks for reading and for sharing. Oh, and I’ve always wanted to play in a major poker tournament too but completely forgot it for the list. How very cool that you got to do that!

  2. I’ve had a bucket list for awhile, never really called it that until recently, but it has been there. It changes as I learn about new things or places. Watching the Shuttle launch was on it. All through my childhood my father was so into NASA and the space program. When I found myself in Tampa, so close, I knew I had to go. It was an awesome experience, felt like I was there with him. Riding on an airboat and hiking to the base of the Grand Canyon are two things I would love to do. These aren’t things I must do before I die. I plan on continually doing new things until I die. And paddle boarding..

    1. Mima, I’m happy that you got to see that launch. I know how hard you worked for that. What a great way to feel your dad’s presence, too. I didn’t even include that on my list. I figure after 3 failed attempts and the fact that time is running out, there’s no point in really trying again. I may have to add the Grand Canyon hike to my list, that sounds amazing.

  3. I saw your post before I read today’s topic… I’ve never actually wanted to go skydiving before until just now… ha! Full time maid goes on my list too, but what else is new. Great list:)

    1. Thanks for stopping by. After all the feedback, I’m definitely going to have to revise the list. I forgot full-time masseuse. LOL. Oh, and I would recommend skydiving at least once. It’s a rush I can’t imagine you can get any other way.

  4. Babe,

With the exception of Skyjump Vegas (only b/c I don’t think *I* can live through watching you do that), those are all very attainable. Of course, now I have to write a NYT bestseller and be on Oprah, so no pressure there.

But in all seriousness, I love the idea of going everywhere with you, experiencing everything with you, and growing old with you.

….but I’m serious about the Skyjump thing. ‘Aint happening!

    1. Hey, I watched you skydive so you can watch me do Skyjump. No one said you had to be sober for it. 🙂 I love you and I love all the wonderful things I’ve checked off of my list because of you.

  5. Just found your post from a postaday2011 tag on twitter. All of those things are do able. Hiking a mountain isn’t a big deal. Visiting key west is amazing. If you can drive from Miami to Key West. Its a slow 4 hour drive right through the ocean. And the sunsets are amazing. I also recommend visiting Lubec, Maine. Which the northeast most point of the us. Quite, small town, beautiful scenery. Great place to just slow down for a day and enjoy life. Good luck. Hope to check back on your blog again.

    1. Hi Peter, welcome and thanks for reading! Hiking a mountain IS a pretty big deal for the couch potato that I am but writing it down is certainly motivation to get prepared just in case the opportunity ever presents itself. 🙂 My husband and I have both been to Key West but never together so I’m really looking forward to that one. I’m going to check out Lubec as it sounds beautiful. Thanks so much for that suggestion.

  6. What IS a bucket list? I do have buckets, but there are no lists inside 😉
So it’s meant to be a collection of things you want to do in your life? I will have to ponder on this subject. Want to visit Tuscany, Ireland, Scotland, USA, New Zealand and lots of other places. I would love my kids to have a happy life. My writing in print. And live my life to the fullest possible.

  7. Well, I actually haven’t put it on paper until recently……and I made Patrick do one, too. Called it a Bucket List only from the “buzz word” probably from the movie. Anyway, most of it revolves around travel and it was cool to see that my husband and I still have many of the same “dreams”. Not that my life wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t…..but more like you said “How cool would it be if….”
